What to expect

Sipping wine with views of the sun-drenched slopes where it was produced, you'll be immersed in the culture and cultivation of Canarian wines on this exclusive National Geographic Day Tour. You'll hear about the island's wine-making heritage and embrace the sights, smells, tastes, textures and sounds at a family-run winery as you try four vintages, paired with food at every stop along the senses.

First, at La Casa del Vino, a 17th-century estate-turned-museum, your knowledgable guide will share the backstory of how savvy 16th-century Spanish growers planted European vines in the fertile, volcanic soil – catapulting Tenerife onto the global wine scene.

Then, it's onto Bodegas El Lomo in the Valley of Tegueste. See the garden, where rare grapes – almost extinct in Europe – continue to thrive, and sip your first wine here, paired with a signature tapa from visionary chef, Jorge Bosch. The in-house wine specialist will take you through the key scents and stages to reveal a wine's origin in an aroma workshop with another signature tapa. Then, it's out to the patio for harvest snacks with textures of toasted gofio grains and a creamy local goat cheese, served with a fruity carbonic macerated wine. Your grand finale awakens your hearing. In a darkened room, try your final vintage and tapa and tune into how music affects your perception of wine.

This is much more than a simple wine-tasting tour – it's a personal insight into how wine can stir the senses.

The vineyard experience was enjoyable but there was a long wait to enter the building & there could have been a larger selection of wines to taste - e.g. no Rose just white & red wines. Having said that, Carolina was engaging & very knowledgeable about the brewing process & the wines.

Only got to taste 4 selected bottles of wine by the winery, we couldn't taste the wines we wanted to purchase as they were not in the tasting itinery.. The Snack consisted of some salmon and nuts (none of which we ate), some Canarian pork and goats cheese and a small bowl of crackers between 5 people, totally unacceptable. For the price we paid per person, this was a very expensive experience, one that we won't be repeating again. The driver of the bus and our guide were both very accomodatin

Very expensive, expected more. The guide was OK but a lot of the same information was repeated. He said the walk around town would be half an hour, it was much longer. While the winery tour was interesting it was longer then it needed to be. The wines were rather disappointing, the tapas was OK but needed some bread as well as meat and cheese.

The whale watching boat trip was better than expected as we saw pilot whales up close. The hotel was a bit of a disappointment. Every day the fish was overcooked and the greens were school meal quality. Hotel staff were very good.
