What to expect

As you approach La Gomera by sea, the dramatic contours hint at extraordinary landscapes waiting to be explored. As Arianne, one of our expert local guides says, "A trip to La Gomera is like visiting a totally different era. You'll feel like you're getting back to the past, to the origins of the Canary Islands." On this day trip from Tenerife, you'll discover remote villages, spend time in Garajonay National Park and visit the capital, San Sebastian.

Garajonay National Park boasts pristine woodlands which are over 60 million years old, and they are undoubtedly a highlight of a visit to La Gomera. The park is a true natural treasure, recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Deep ravines scar the swathes of evergreen laurel forests bursting with rare plant life. The visitor centre is the place to find out more about the unique botany and history of Garajonay. Next, you'll pay a visit to some of La Gomera's most scenic villages where you can get a feel for what life is like for the island's residents.

After departing Garajonay, we'll stop for a typical lunch made from local produce, served at a family-run restaurant with striking views over the island's volcanic landscapes. You'll also delve into La Gomera's culture with a demonstration of 'silbo gomero' – a unique whistling language. Arianne says, "With a landscape like ours, communicating by whistle saved a lot of climbing." Round off your island tour with free time to explore San Sebastian, where Columbus set out on his first voyage of discovery.

The tour was sold an English / German tour. 80% of the tour guides commentary was in German. Not speaking German I am sure I missed much. The lunch was very basic and not what would be expected from Tui.

Whilst seeing the island was very interesting and the tour showcased its beauty. Most of the day was spent on the coach with brief stops at view points and photo opportunities - which is nice - however, the stop at the national park proved rather pointless, there was no real tour of the park, nothing in particular was shown. The lunch spot was ok, as expected to be honest. We ended up arriving in San Sebastián with 30 minutes of free time, when it is arguably the most interesting stop of the day

we enjoyed Gomera national park but didn't see the point in stopping to view the banana plantation particularly as we had very limited time to explore San Sebastian which is a delightful town. The lunch was not good with vegetable soup that was tasteless, the chicken was ok but served with bland rice and vegetables and only white wine or water was offered. The staff seemed disinterested in us or the service they provided. Beautiful island so trip could have been very much better.

Guide was awful, hard to locate bus after ferry as she sat inside bus rather than standing outside, stopped at national park & didn’t provide any facts or info on the park or where to hike just be back in parking lot in one hour while she chain smoked outside the cafe. Same at the ferry terminal town just be back here in 1 hour, no guidance on where to go, English was hard to understand
