Join this 3-hour sea adventure departing from Funchal, for an experience that combines luxury and adventure. Upon your arrival on the catamaran, you'll be greeted with Portuguese sparkling wine and enjoy an open bar, including a variety of cocktails, local beers and wines, and refined handmade snacks.

Your journey begins at the new marina in Funchal, where you'll set out in search of dolphins, whales, and turtles. Then, you'll have a welcome break at Cabo Girão (586 m), Europe's highest sea cliff, which provides the opportunity to swim in crystal-clear waters during a bathing session. On the return to the marina, you'll relax while contemplating breathtaking panoramic views of the South coast of Madeira.

The likelihood of observing dolphins and whales is 96% during the morning experiences, 92% in the afternoon, and 68% during our summer sunset experiences, according to the 2023 figures. The team of onshore observers, is equipped with powerful binoculars, contributes to achieving these high observation rates. Please keep in mind, while the team makes every effort, there are days when these wild creatures choose not to reveal themselves. To maintain an intimate atmosphere, the excursion is limited to a maximum of 17 guests accompanied by 3 crew members, ensuring optimal visibility of marine life and 5-star service for each guest.

Really friendly and helpful staff, the boat was in excellent condition and very clean. We were attracted to this cruise because of the limitation on passenger numbers and we were not disappointed, there was plenty of comfortable seating space and it was very easy to move around. Even though we did not see dolphins or whales this time we loved the experience and would love to do it again.

We don’t see any whales or dolphins but that really didn’t matter. The trip was amazing and the sea swimming among the best thing I’ve ever done. I told the guide that due to an injury (and being 60) I’d not be able to use the step ladder to get back onto the boat. The guide lowered the platform for me and enabled me to enjoy my swim knowing that I had an easy way back on board. I can’t thank him enough.

The boat trip was amazing the boat was a luxurious we got to see dolphins and had a swim stop the staff was great couldn’t do enough for you all drinks was free with a few snacks for you to try. Boat was so spacious which we loved as only 17 people aloud on at a time other boats passed which was over loaded with people. Would definitely recommend it was a lovely afternoon out.

We have done some dolphin & whale watching boat trips from Funcah before, but this was by far the best. Excellent value for personal service, quality, organisation. It was truly VIP, drinks, snacks included, crew superb, rare whales seen. 11 out of 10 from us

Nat Geo Day Tour: Local Farm Experience on Madeira’s Terraced Hills

Drive through Funchal's bustling town and Madeira's magnificent rolling hills towards Quinta Pedagogica da Camacha, a small farm committed to sustainable agriculture. Here, your National Geographic-trained guide will offer insights into the region and introduce you to the farm's owner, Bruno Santos. Having left accounting for agriculture, Bruno now dedicates his life to helping his neighborhood through sustainable farming, a lowered environmental footprint, and community outreach. Follow Bruno through flowering groves as you explore the grounds. You'll learn about the many uses for their freshly grown herbs and visit their strawberry plantation. Observe the fields and poios—what Madeirans call the terraced areas where they grow their crops—as you learn about the farm's produce and animal husbandry. The farm is home to various animals including chickens, goats, sheep, and more. There's even a small market Bruno created, to help other local vendors reach their greater community, inspired by the ‘buy local' mantra. You'll also experience a host of seasonal activities, offered exclusively to National Geographic travelers. Harvest ripe fruits and learn the proper techniques for sowing seeds in a planting workshop. This hands-on learning environment brings Bruno's sustainability and bio-friendly philosophy to life. Afterwards, you'll relax and enjoy refreshing tea brewed from the farm's own herbs, as well as homemade cakes, toast, and jams preserved from local fruits.
