Qué te espera

Both the destinations on this tour are within striking distance of the Costa de la Luz, but they couldn't be more different. One, is a typical whitewashed Andalusian village with tiled fountains, the other a slice of Britain with red phonebooths. You'll begin with a tour of the charming Vejer de la Frontera ,then head to Gibraltar for a boat cruise in the bay. Carmen, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘It's called Vejer de la Frontera because it was on the frontier between Christian and Muslim Spain. As a legacy of the past, there are 2km of walls and almost 200 heritage buildings, including the Gothic-Mudejar Church of San Salvador..'

The adventure begins with a scenic drive inland, past rolling hills and a horizon dotted with whitewashed villages. You'll have about an hour in Vejer to tour its winding lanes and pretty plazas and soak up its history. ‘Vejer shows its Moorish roots at every corner. It oozes history and enjoys a dramatic location in the hills. Don't miss the Plaza de España, which has to be one of Spain's most attractive squares, or the Mirador de la Cobijada, with its statue of a Vejer woman in traditional dress.'

Then it's on to Gibraltar, the tiny British territory, which is home to the highest concentration of dolphins in Europe. There's a good chance you'll spot some of these playful creatures on your dolphin-watching cruise around the Bay of Gibraltar. Afterwards, enjoy some free time to explore the town – it's a mecca for shoppers.

Take a closer look at the art of winemaking at Bodegas Campestral. The vineyard, located in Arcos de la Frontera, is known for its blend of tradition and sustainability. As you explore the estate, you'll learn about the heritage of winemaking at the bodega, Spain's largest ancestral wine cellar. Here, the family's commitment to sustainability is mirrored in every aspect of the winemaking process. On arrival, you'll be greeted with a warm welcome, and your guide will offer an insightful perspective on the vineyard business in the context of Jerez winemaking. Starting with an exploration of the grape selection process, your experience will then take you through harvesting techniques before leading you into the cellar where the wine is stored. See the integration of renewable energy with panels on the roof, powering the facility and making it autonomous in electricity. Next, head out into the vineyard for an activity reserved only for National Geographic travelers - the disgorgement of a wine bottle. This technique represents the artistry and craftsmanship of winemaking. Finally, satisfy your senses with a tasting experience, savor a selection of the bodega's wines, paired with tapas. This tour offers an opportunity to delve into winemaking techniques while discovering the owners' commitment to sustainability. From grape selection to bottling, each step is a testament to their dedication to environmental stewardship and sustainable practices within the industry.
