What to expect

Once an important and prosperous city, Lindos is ancient Greece to a tee. Explore this history-steeped seaside village with an optional, interactive Acropolis tour, bringing treasures to life with the Lindos 3D app. ‘I'm particularly passionate about guiding in Lindos, one of the oldest acropolises in Greece. I love strolling through the maze of whitewashed streets, especially stopping by the Captain's House and seeing its beautiful, pebbled mosaic floor,' says Fotini, one of our guides.

As you approach Lindos, there's no mistaking the mountaintop fortress of the Acropolis, perched more than 120 metres above the sea. It crowns a headland whose slopes are covered in trees the whitewashed homes of the village. Don your audio headset and let your local expert take you through narrow, cobbled streets, spotting dinky chapels and gleaming Orthodox churches along the way. The interior of Church of the Holy Virgin is lavishly decorated in frescoes and icons. Along the way, you'll stop off for a drink in the heart of the village, at a family-run business.

Such was the importance of Rhodes and Lindos throughout the centuries, that the Knights of St John erected walls in the 13th century to protect the citadel.

Enjoyed the whole experience. Very informative guide. I would've preferred a little longer to explore the town. Even an extra 30mins would've made it a little less rushed.

When we booked we thought it was for a whole day we paid a huge amount with Tui, really we should have been told it was only a half day trip. Our guide was very good our Rep is not, we will not use Tui again for any trips. The Lindos pathway is not suitable for anyone scared of heights there is a very slippery steep narrow path to the top, then two staircases going up to the temple. It was a rush to get back to the coach leaving little time to explore Lindos village.

Our Guide,Nina, explained on the coach about our excursion for the half day.Armed with hearing equipment she constantly kept in contact giving explanations for the history of the island and an in depth knowledge to how the spoken language evolved. Some of the stairs to the Acropolis was a bit hazardous as only 1 handrail was fixed to the rt hand wall going up.2 queues constantly going up & down, made for awkward passing. Its very steep in places,so a good pair of lungs is needed. The views were stu

Driver and guide were excellent. Ear pieces were a little temperamental though! We had a very early start and the hotel supplied us with an amazing packed breakfast which we unfortunately were not allowed to eat on the bus! Obviously we could not climb with the boxes, so had to wait until we had returned to the hotel mid afternoon to eat our breakfast !!!! I really think this issue needs to be addressed it’s quiet a climb to do on an stomach!

Watch bustling beehive life through transparent observation hives and discover intriguing facts about pollination and apitherapy—the medicinal use of bee products. You'll also learn various simple ways to protect these creatures so crucial to our planet's ecosystem. National Geographic travelers will then enjoy an exclusive, live demonstration of honey extraction by one of the Bee Museum staff in a private room. Learn about professional techniques like honeycomb scratching and the use of tools such as manual extractors to fill empty jars. Afterwards, you'll be able to sample the freshly extracted honey in a dedicated space exclusively available to National Geographic groups. Try other types of honey, too, including varieties like pine, thyme and erica. Plus, try the famous Melekouni, a traditional sweet snack from Rhodes. After the tasting, don a protective suit and take a look at an active apiary, examining the open hive with an experienced beekeeper. Surrounded by happy buzzing, you'll learn about important tools, such as frames, smokers and scrapers, as well as gain a practical understanding of how bee colonies are organized. Leave with a new understanding of the humble honeybee and what you can do to protect it.
