What to expect

Northern Gran Canaria is all non-stop natural beauty. This tour delves into this often-overlooked part of the island's treasure chest. You'll visit Spain's largest botanic garden, and a banana plantation. David, one of our local guides, says, ‘Bananas are our national fruit – they're a symbol of the Canaries. Explorers sailing to the Americas would take green ones that ripened en route. And we exported so many to Britain that Canary Wharf in London got its name from us.'

First up is a deep dive into this island's continent-like biodiversity. Planted on a hillside, Jardin Canario is the largest botanical park in Spain. It boasts more than 2,000 species of plants, 500 of which are endemic to the island. Tour the tree-lined grounds and learn all about the initiative's conservation efforts and environmental education programme. Next up is a banana plantation, where you'll discover 13 varieties of plantain from all over the world.

The final stop will include a guided tour of charming Firgas village, a cluster of narrow streets lined with traditional Canarian houses. Explore the photogenic streets with your guide, who will explain the presence of so many fountains in this little town. Afterwards, you'll have free time to discover more of the delights of Firgas at your own pace, perhaps stop for a leisurely coffee or look for souvenirs.

Picked up on time yet rushed throughout the whole trip, from 08:00 till we was dropped off at 15:30 we wasn't allowed any food (not enough time) or drink, not allowed to eat or drink anything on the coach and it was an extremely hot day, as I said not enough time given at any of the places to go and get any food or even find a shop that we could buy water from and drink before getting back on the coach, total waste of a day and couldn't wait to get back to the hotel

We spent more time picking up and dropping off at other hotels than time spent at the stops. Very rushed apart from at the banana plantation.

We were devastated, we paid a lot of money for 3 adults, this was one of 3 trips we booked with TUI coming to over €450. We were told the botanical gardens were closed and taken to a small park with a kids playground in Telda, given 30 minutes to queue for toilet, queue for coffee, quickly rush around park and church! Then rushed into Banana plantation and ended up in German group for half of it, then brought to one fountain in next town but no real tour of streets. It did not deliver

Would've liked to see a wee bit more on botanical visit due to timescale. The guide was informed by myself as deaf and she was very good in ensuring I was with her whenever she explained details.
